Dály Hermanos Brewing Tips
Remember to always start with cold, fresh water for all brewing methods, and Know Your Coffee! Here are short descriptions for grinding and brewing coffee with organic coffee beans using common devices and methods:
- Drip Coffee Maker
- Grind: Use a medium grind, like the consistency of sand.
- Brew: Place a paper filter in the basket, add the ground coffee, and use a coffee-to-water ratio of 1:17. Start the coffee maker and let it brew completely before serving.
- Pour Over (V60 or Chemex)
- Grind: Use a medium-coarse grind, the consistency of kosher salt.
- Brew: Place a filter in the dripper, rinse it with hot water, and discard the rinse water. Add the ground coffee, then pour hot water in a spiral motion, allowing the coffee to "bloom" for 30 seconds before continuing. Maintain a steady pour until reaching the desired coffee volume
- French Press
- Grind: Use a coarse grind, resembling sea salt. Too fine a grind can cause over-extraction.
- Brew: Add the ground coffee to the French press, using a ratio of 1:15 coffee to water. Pour hot water (just below boiling) over the grounds, stir, and let it steep for four minutes then press the plunger down slowly to separate the grounds from the brewed coffee.
- Espresso Machine
- Grind: Use a fine grind, looking like powdered sugar.
- Brew: Tamp the ground coffee firmly into the portafilter. Lock it into the espresso machine and start the shot. Aim for a 25-30 second extraction time for a balanced espresso.
- Aero Press
- Grind: Use a medium-fine grind, between table salt and sand.
- Brew: Insert a paper filter into the cap, attach it to the chamber, and place it over a mug. Add coffee and water, stir, and let it steep for about 1 minute. Press the plunger slowly and steadily.
- Cold Brew
- Grind: Use a coarse grind, close to the consistency of breadcrumbs.
- Brew: Mix coffee and cold water in a jar or pitcher at a 1:8 ratio. Stir, cover, and steep in the refrigerator for 12-24 hours. Strain through a fine mesh sieve or coffee filter before serving.
These methods ensure the unique flavors of Dály Hermanos organic coffee beans are well-extracted and full-bodied, providing a satisfying cup every time that's good to the last Buchito!
